Hitting the road in my Maruti mini,
Me and my best friend from history.
Packing in big, blue rucksacks
Chips and drinks and face packs.
Stopping at McDonald’s for lunch,
Burgers, fries and Oreo we crunch.
Topping it off with hot chocolate,
We get back, don’t want to be late.
Rolling the windows all down,
We run away from our grey town.
Letting in the green, the cool air,
To mess with our clothes and our open hair.
We spread our hands to bang with the roof,
Though, if this trip will be good, we have no proof.
But we sing like there isn’t any tomorrow,
And let the window suck all our sorrow.
We zoom through the stopping tolls,
To save it for some saucy, oily, rolls.
For we are gonna let go,
And loose ourselves in the flow.
We crack the most lame jokes we know,
As we speed down, our car’s never slow,
For we don’t know where we’ll go,
And we’ll drive till we drop. Though,
We’ll stop for a second for fuel.
Wearing sunglasses, we act as if we rule.
The sun dips lower, and we stare ahead,
At the never ending road, and nothing said.
As we realize, what we never knew,
And the reasons why we never flew.
Sky changes from crimson to black,
But today, we aren’t going back.
For we wish to elongate this moment,
Moment of peace, that time has lent.
In which we pretend that responsibility doesn’t exist,
And chocolate fudges we don’t resist.
We halt now, our hands aching,
With all the coolness we were faking.
In the hotel, we ransack their kitchen,
Ordering starters and trying butter chicken.
(For we are vegetarians, but we puke.)
And then have lime and sweet soda from Duke,
To ease the awful acidity.
In the room, we plan for the city,
First to the gardens, then to the fort,
And to the lake to paddle a boat.
But we wake up when the sun is high,
And we look at our tangled hair, and sigh.
So we binge watch hilarious drama shows,
In the tiny hotel TV with cheese nachos,
And we glance at each other, and crack up again,
At the part where the mother fakes her ankle pain.
We don’t have any phones to charge.
At night, we reminisce our moments large.
We don’t know when we fall asleep.
The next day, all the hotel soaps, in our purse we keep.
And sit in the car again to take the road.
Realizing all this while, we were never bored.
The back seat is loaded with drinks and chips.
We talk animatedly about our near future trips.
We don’t sip, we gulp the Coke.
As we smile and on laughter, we choke.
There is a sudden sadness as we near our city now,
We don’t want to slow down from these moments, wow.
But still, we smile, when we reach our house at night.
For the next time, we promise we’ll take a flight.
