Look at you
So mature, wise and older
Your arms, longer and bolder
Ready to hold on to the train that begins here
Itβs a bit crowded and incompatible, but to be fair
Adventure is plenty and rife
Welcome of the Metro of Life
The next station is arriving shortly
You can change here for the school life, the college life, the coaching life or the career life
Doors will open, on both sides
Please mind the gap.
Beware of pickpockets and procrastination
Take care of your belongings.
Look at you, the adults
So realistic and so grown
Looking at us, wondering where your childhood has flown
Your wisdom hidden in the silver streak of your hair
Your eyes glitter with the truths you have faced.
Look at us
Climbing that mountain, that peak
Looking back, its around 200 tests,
75 exams and 20 projects, none leaked (except, may be one)
We have, literally, searched rivers
Explored caves and monuments
We have shared emotions,
Of devotions, before the exams,
Of happiness of false lockdown alarms
Of nostalgia when boarding the return flights
Of anxiousness and surprise
We have, half-heartedly, rebelled on WhatsApp
About our rights
We have discovered underwater creatures in swampy bays
Spotted migratory birds on a cold Jan day
Speaking of migration, I am first reminded of urbanisation and EVS
And secondly, of us, migrating away
A flock that is ready to explore the planet in a single life,
A flock nurtured by the finest teachers,
Teachers having taught for 30 years and more
Yet working hard to make the same interesting for us
Three years is a long time
Especially if it is a foundation for the rest
So, before we dissolve in the sea of old students
And fade away from memories
To become a part of oblivion
We just want to say
Thank You!
(PS: spoken in honour of school teachers in the farewell partly of 2018)
