Dogs, I still fear,

But down the road,

I saw a dog crying,

A tear slip.

From its gleaming eyes.

Or was it just the Sun?

A mirage in its eye?

But there was a false illusion

An ashen hope

In its burning eyes.

Dogs, faithful creatures,

But down the road.

I saw a dog lying,

with cuts and bruises

In its golden fur,

Or were its just the shadows?

A play of light?

But there was a whisper

Barely audible

Screaming from it’s eyes

Dogs, a common pet.

But down the road

I saw a dog longing,

For the sun to set?

For he couldn’t move.

And the Sun blazed

Him alone.

And his eyes were red.

Bloodshot,

From bleeding hope.

Dogs, I still fear.

But down the road.

I saw a dog sleeping,

With a sad serenity

with a calm tail

Or was it just tied?

Weary?

But there a distant gleam in its eyes

That made him sit

And watch the Sun set.
